Stamping operations, such as drawing, blanking, piercing
and forming are perfomed on the presses that can be genarally divided
into three main types based on their drive:
Mechanical presses that have mechanical flywheel that
stores the energy and then transfers it to the puch and to the workpiece.
Hydraulic presses that use hydraulic cylinders to deliver
a controlled force. Hydraulic presses, and similarly hydraulic cushions,
can deliver the full power at any point in the stroke, variable tonnage
with overload protection; and adjustable stroke and speed.
Servo presses that are the presses driven by AC servo
motor. The torque produced is converted to a linear force via a ball screw.
They usually offer programmable stroke and slide velocity as well as dwell
in the stroke.
